‘Skills for Jobs’ S4J presents the novelties introduced in the Albanian VET system at the third International VPET Congress

The International Congress on Vocational and Professional Education and Training (VPET) offers a platform for the players in international cooperation in VPET to engage in open dialogue and share good practices. The third edition of the event was held in Winterthur, Switzerland, from 6th to 8th of June and brought together over 500 participants from over 80 countries, under the motto Skills for Employability and Careers. It was a great event, tackling on the VPET need to adopt in response to the new realities in a digitalized world of work.

Key notes speakers in the Congress included US Secretary of Education Ms. Betsy Davos, Singapore’s Minister for Education Mr. Ong Ye Kung, Chief Human Resources Officer and Member of the Managing Board of Siemens AG, Ms. Janina Kugel. Over 30 apprentices were brought on stage to share their learning and working experiences in companies from different industries throughout Switzerland.

This year the delegation from Albania was led by Deputy Minister of Finance and Economy Ms. Dajna Sorensen. Swisscontact Regional Director for Eastern Europe Mr. Henry Leerentveld; Board Director of Hamdi Bushati School Mr. Gjergj Leqejza; colleagues from UNDP, Helvetas Intercooperation (RISI Albania), Swisscontact (Skills for Jobs S4J); staff of the Ministry of Finance and Economy and VET; and provider school directors participated in the delegation.

‘New Ways of Learning for employable youth in Albania – ‘Skills for Jobs’ S4J

‘Skills for Jobs’ S4J was one of the six projects selected by the Organizing Committee of the Congress to present. ‘Skills for Jobs’ S4J Project Director Mr. Henry Leerentveld presented the project. The presentation was focused on New Ways and Blended Learning, to enrich the training opportunities and increase flexibility in VET providers supported by the project and beyond. Evidences and results were shared regarding use of the virtual platforms, integration of industry standards, the reconceptualization of teacher’s role as a facilitator, using student-centred methods boosting creativity and talent, such as problem-based learning, and the enabling infrastructure through blended learning classes and common learning spaces.
