‘Smart Glasses’, Lezha students’ project to help the blind wins another prize

For a few months, Arielin Muça, Drilon Manjani, Maksimiljan Koleci, Sara Palaj, Megi Çupi, students of ICT and Economy branches at the “Kolin Gjoka” vocational school in Lezha, led by the ICT teacher Jetmir Shtjefni, have dedicated themselves to a special project to help blind people.

‘Smart Glasses’ are built with the Arduino package and their main function is to help blind people distinguish obstacles by voice signals. Watch the project presentation on the following video:

During the weekend of May 18-20, the students’ project won the second prize in the “StartUp Live” competition, which was held for the 7th consecutive year in Tirana. The second prize consists of 3 months of assistance, mentoring, exchange of ideas and contacts that will help students develop their project further.

The project was first presented at the “Young Entrepreneurs Albania” competition held in early May at the ‘Peter Mahringer’ school in Shkodra, where it was awarded the first prize.

Soon after the competition in Shkodra, the ‘Smart Glasses’ project was presented to the Prime Minister of Albania at the Lezha Job Fair on 9 May. Watch the video below:

The event was also attended by a group of students from the industrial school ‘Pavarësia’, who, led by their teacher Lorena File, presented their project, the replica of ‘Alexa’.

Startup Live is a global community of entrepreneurial minds and stakeholders interested in new ventures, who support one another to grow together. This community offers intensive acceleration programs in over 40 cities and facilitates the meeting of young entrepreneurs with investors and successful people in the field of innovation. The activity aims to “give impetus” to business ideas, enabling get-togethers and knowledge exchange with field experts.
