Apprenticeship Week 2020: Boosting Innovation and Awareness

The Apprenticeship Week 2020 was organized by ‘Skills for Jobs’ VET partner schools in the framework of the European Vocational Skills Week 2020. As in every year, students and school staff prepared with dedication for the activities taking place during the week. But this time, after months of lockdown and generally fewer organized activities due to the pandemic, the apprenticeship week was particularly welcome. The challenge was to organize the activities in a new normality and within the security measures, while some foreseen activities could not take place.

However, several activities were organized, with an additional element of awareness on environmental protection and community service. S4J partner providers in 6 cities of Albania organized competitions and projects with students, success stories, certifications, student visits to companies and companies visiting the school, company interviews with 10th grade students and signing Memorandums of Understanding with new business partners. Dialogue roundtables were also organized, where VET providers met with businesses in the region to discuss market needs for professional skills.

Andi Billa, Marketing Coordinator at the industrial “Pavarësia” school, says:

“I think the goal was achieved despite the difficult situation and conditions and general skepticism. Student projects that took place this year during were larger in scale and multidisciplinary, while serving the community and being innovative, such as using renewable energy to preserve the environment and reduce energy costs for the school. ”

Eni Xhongu, Marketing Coordinator at the “Gjergj Canco” school, says:

“I was very impressed by students’ high interest to participate in the project competition and their innovative ideas.”

During the Apprenticeship Week, several Memorandums of Understanding was signed between private sector companies and VET institutions. Soon, these companies will offer apprenticeships and skills development schemes for VET students.
