Does albania need new qualifications in ICT?

One of the main objectives of ‘Skills for Jobs’ (S4J), is to support partner VET providers with updated curriculum through working closely with National Agency of Vocational Education, Training and Qualification (NAVETQ) to further improve the offer towards labour market needs.

Earlier this year, the project commissioned PROTIK to undertake a study to identify the needs for new skills and qualifications in ICT sector. The methodology of the study consisted in interviews, questionnaires and a validation workshop with twenty-nine private companies in total from the ICT sector. The study will serve to NAVETQ to develop new qualifications and update existing ones.

The validation workshop took place on September 7th. Its aim was to validate the findings of the study with private companies, VET institutions supported by the project, NAVETQ, public higher education institutions and representatives from S4J. New Media CommunicationEasy PayICTS LabThe Dancing BitsAlbanian Business Partner (ABP)Infosoft SystemsBig Media ExpertSociété Générale AlbaniaAmerican University of KosovoCommunication ProgressIntracom, and Protik Innovation Center were among the participants from the private sector.

The workshop proved to be very useful and included lively discussions that brought private companies closer to institutions in charge for vocational education, while reminding once again the institutions about the need of program flexibility, especially in this sector.

The validation for the new qualification has continued further with electronic exchange from companies. During October, the first document towards curriculum development, focusing on professional standards, will be developed. We are very pleased to be working closely with the private sector for such an important step.

We will keep you posted on the continuation of the process.
