Ensuring quality in apprenticeships: instruments for planning and assessing work-based learning, prepared and in use
Ensuring the delivery of quality apprenticeships is a priority for ‘Skills for Jobs’ and its partner VET providers. In this light, in late 2019, the project, together with pedagogical experts, engaged in preparing a Manual to help teachers and instructors in Planning and Assessing Apprenticeships.
A series of meetings in every S4J partner school were organized in since October 2018, to understand the needs of teachers and instructors that are responsible for apprenticeships. The manual and related instrument were developed in cooperation with the teachers and instructors, in order for their needs to be properly addressed.
The tools were validated by the best performing teachers in every school and introduced massively during a series of workshops, where instructions on how to use the tools were also provided.
The ‘Individual Plan of the Apprenticeship’ is one of the key instruments of the package. This plan is prepared for each student by the school teacher/instructor, with the support of the in-company mentor, following the signing of the apprenticeship contract. The plan ensures that each individual student performs in the apprenticeship in business all the practical modules foreseen by the curricula.
