TRADITIONAL, IN A MODERN LIGHT

TRADITIONAL, IN A MODERN LIGHT

‘Hamdi Bushati’ textile students make their debut alongside famous Albanian fashion designers

‘Ethno Vibes’ is a fashion event dedicated to promoting the rich Albanian cultural heritage. Conserving and promoting our tradition and identity by revitalizing traditional elements in clothes and mixing them with modern styling concepts is at the core of the events’ philosophy, whose second edition took place in the National Museum of Photography ‘Marubi’ in Shkodra ‘pedonale’ on 29th of September.

Elements from our cultural heritage today serve as inspiration for many famous fashion designers, who combine in their work modern and traditional elements. Among the artists that apply these principles, Besa Rugova, Dorina Kolaj, Hilda Maha, Etnik Shala, Ajola Lekaj showcased their best works during the event.

Along these big names, junior fashion designers enrolled at the textile direction in ‘Hamdi Bushati’ vocational school in Shkodra made their debut, presenting their own modern-traditional hand-made project in a special session.

Inspired by Marubi photos, the young students had designed and created for the event a white dress with embroidery details in black, a combination of tradition and modernity.  The four junior artists explained the process of creating their masterpiece, which was exposed in the Marubi Museum during the whole event.

Working on the project encouraged creativity and team work among the four students, while the event gained them exposure to the ‘real’ world of styling and fashion in Albania. By participating, students got to be part of a great experience, learning from and networking with the biggest Albanian stylists and other event stakeholders.

Director Jasmina Lumanaj assisted the students’ showcase by presenting the school, its directions and its vision on the Textile & Confectioning profile and some of the best students’ works through the years. Two more ‘Hamdi Bushati’ students engaged at the cocktail reception, promoting the Tourism & Hospitality direction of the school.
