As part of efforts to strengthen international cooperation in vocational education, the partnership between GBS St. Gallen and the Vocational School of Elbasan has enabled the expansion of the “Second Life” initiative, introducing an innovative approach to reusing computer equipment for teaching and the development of students’ digital skills.
Through this initiative, Macintosh computers have been given a “second life” in education, contributing to the modernization of the learning environment and improving students’ access to technology.
Within this framework, an event was held at the school premises in March with the participation of representatives from the Swiss Embassy in Albania, Swisscontact Albania, and “Skills for Jobs” (S4J) project, who were introduced to the infrastructure improvements, school facilities, and the concrete benefits for students.
During the event, students and teachers shared their experiences from exchanges with Swiss partners, presenting concrete examples of international cooperation under the “P2P Learning in ICT, Alb-CH” project. The initiative also benefits vocational “Gjergj Canco” school, expanding its impact across multiple educational institutions.
The event also featured an online connection with Swiss partners, where the “Second Life” initiative was presented in more detail and future cooperation with vocational schools in Albania was discussed.
In his remarks, Philipp Arnold, Deputy Head of Mission at the Swiss Embassy, emphasized the importance of internationalizing vocational education as a key factor in improving quality and preparing young people for the labour market.
