Vocational education in Albania is entering a new phase of digitalisation and internationalisation, where learning platforms and international partnerships are playing an increasingly important role in improving teaching quality and strengthening the link with the labour market.
The integration of MesoVET into Albania’s national digital infrastructure systems is currently underway and the National Agency for Employment and Skills (NAES) has been designated as the responsible managing institution for this process. This development represents a key step toward ensuring the institutional sustainability of the platform and its full alignment with national digital governance frameworks.
At the same time, MesoVET continues to expand its content offer, which now offers digital learning materials for over 250 vocational theory subjects, aligned with national vocational education curricula. These materials are widely used by teachers and are contributing to improving the quality of student learning across vocational schools. An important innovation this year is also the development of materials for 34 new modules in dual VET profiles.

Another key milestone is the integration of MesoVET into the assessment process, where level exams will continue to be conducted through the platform, turning it into a key instrument for standardising and modernising assessment practices in vocational education.
Alongside these developments, international cooperation is also bringing innovation into vocational schools. Within the partnership between GBS St. Gallen and the Vocation School in Elbasan, the “Second Life” initiative has enabled the use of repurposed Macintosh computers to support teaching and enhance students’ digital skills.
In this context, an event held in Elbasan, with the participation of representatives from the Swiss Embassy in Albania, Swisscontact, and Skills for Jobs (S4J) project, showcased the results of this initiative and its impact on modernising the learning environment and strengthening students’ digital competences.
During the event, students and teachers shared their experiences from exchanges with Swiss partners under the “P2P Learning in ICT, Alb-CH” project, demonstrating the value of international cooperation in developing practical skills. Beneficiaries of this initiative also include Vocational “Gjergj Canco” School, expanding its impact across several vocational institutions in the country.
In his remarks, the representative of the Swiss Embassy emphasised the importance of the internationalisation of vocational education as a key factor in improving education quality and preparing young people for the labour market.
Overall, developments in MesoVET and international partnerships are building a more modern, accessible, and skills-oriented ecosystem, bringing vocational education in Albania closer to European standards.
